Key Terms Glossary

Argumentum uses specific language. Here's what it all means.

Claim
The topic of debate. A single, clear statement of fact or opinion—e.g., "A hotdog is a sandwich." Every debate on Argumentum is structured around a Claim.
Arbiter
You. We call users Arbiters because you don't just post—you judge, weigh, and help decide the consensus. Every verified user is an Arbiter.
The Ledger
The permanent, public database of all Claims and Arguments. Unlike a social media feed, the Ledger never deletes great logic.
Consensus Meter
The live visual bar on every Claim page showing the community split (e.g., 68% Agree). It reflects the aggregate weight of the strongest arguments—not a popularity contest.
Voting Rights
The privilege earned by joining a side on a Claim. Once you vote on the Agree side, you can judge all Agree arguments—but not Disagree ones. This prevents brigading.
Devil's Advocate
The act of posting an argument (or reply) on the side you didn't vote for. Allowed and encouraged—you just can't vote on those arguments.
